The California Association of Superior Court Investigators (CASCI) proudly invites you to the 2026 Annual Statewide Conference, held at the iconic Palisades Tahoe Resort—home of the 1960 Winter Olympics and one of the most stunning destinations in California.

This year’s conference brings together Court Investigators, Supervisors, Managers, and allied professionals from across the state for three days of high-value training, statewide networking, legislative updates, skill-building workshops, and specialized bootcamp intensives.

All trainings meet Probate Code requirements for Court Investigator continuing education hours.

Below are the detailed course descriptions for the 2026 tracks.


TRACK A – Conservatorship Foundations

Bootcamp: Conservatorship Investigations

A foundational course ideal for new investigators or those seeking a refresher. Topics include statutory responsibilities, investigation workflow, interviewing conservatees, capacity indicators, medical documentation, and report writing structure.

Roundtable: Conservatorship

A collaborative session to discuss complex cases, county differences, workload challenges, and practical solutions.

Elder Abuse Recognition

Training on identifying physical, financial, psychological, and neglect-based abuse. Includes mandated reporter obligations, documentation, and referral processes.

Major Neurocognitive Disorders: Medications & Capacity

A clinician-led deep dive into dementia, Alzheimer’s, and cognitive decline. Covers how medications affect behavior, cognition, and capacity evaluations.


TRACK B – Guardianship & Family Investigations

Bootcamp: Guardianship Investigations

Covers standards for minors, interviewing children, evaluating placement and safety, parental fitness, educational needs, and creating a trauma-informed investigative lens.

Roundtable: Guardianship

Open forum for statewide collaboration on complex minors’ cases, cross-county issues, emergency hearings, and balancing family dynamics.

Interviewing Minors

Advanced training on child development, trauma responses, rapport-building, and ethical interviewing practices.

Domestic Violence in Probate & Family Contexts

Recognizing DV dynamics, evaluating protective factors, and ensuring child and vulnerable adult safety.

Termination of Parental Rights

Process overview, statutory requirements, investigative considerations, and trauma-informed recommendations.


TRACK C – Advanced Financial Investigations

Accounting

A step-by-step guide to reviewing accountings, identifying red flags, validating receipts, assessing fiduciary behavior, and writing clear financial findings.

Advanced Accounting

For experienced investigators—complex estate structures, SNTs, trusts, forensic review techniques, beneficiary impact, and breach of duty indicators.

Trusts & Special Needs Trusts (SNT)

Legal requirements, trustee responsibilities, allowable expenses, misuse detection, and SNT-specific investigation considerations.


TRACK D – Intersections With Other Court Systems

Dependency / Probate Guardianship Crossover

Understanding how dependency court actions impact probate cases, information-sharing limits, and cross-system collaboration.

Minor’s Counsel

Role clarity, coordinating interviews, best practices for joint investigation with counsel, and maintaining neutrality.

Stepparent Adoption

Assessment guidelines, interviewing biological parents, parental consent issues, and attachment considerations.


TRACK E – Professional Practice & Safety

Safety in the Field

Personal safety planning, situational awareness, conducting home visits safely, when to reschedule or discontinue, and de-escalation skills.

Legislative & Policy Update

Annual statewide update covering:

  • New laws impacting Court Investigators
  • Current bills in progress
  • Probate Code revisions
  • Judicial Council updates

Supervising & Managing Court Investigators

For leads, supervisors, and managers. Covers:
